Forgotten password for filespace user account

  • Updated

The instructions below are for forgotten filespace user account passwords. If you would like to change a known password, please follow the Change your user password article.

If you are the owner of a filespace and need to reset the password of your web portal account, you can do so by clicking "Forgot password" on the web portal login page.

It is important to know that the web portal user and password are not connected to your filespace user and password. This means if you reset the password in the web portal, it will not be reset on the filespace.

Retrieving your password from your operating system's password manager

If you previously selected "Remember password" when logging into your filespace, your password may be stored in your operating system's built-in password manager. Here's how to retrieve it:

On macOS:

  1. Open the "Keychain Access" application (found in Applications > Utilities)
  2. In the search field, type "lucid"
  3. Look for entries named lucid/filespaces
  4. Select the entry and verify the filespace name and username by looking at the "Account" value
  5. Double-click on the entry for your filespace
  6. Check the "Show password" checkbox
  7. Enter your macOS user password when prompted
  8. Your filespace password will be displayed

Forgotten Standard user password

If you cannot retrieve your password using the method above, you need to contact your filespace administrator to reset your password.

LucidLink has no knowledge of the identity of the filespace administrator, so you should reach out for further information within your organisation.

Forgotten Root user password

Due to the robust security mechanism enforced by LucidLink, there is no password recovery option for the root user. LucidLink cannot recover or reset a root user password.

If you've forgotten your root user password and cannot retrieve it from your system's password manager, you will not be able to access your filespace as the root user. This is a critical security feature that ensures your data remains protected.

Best practices for root users

It is recommended to:

  1. Use a secure password manager to store your root password
  2. Create additional administrator users as a backup
  3. Consider using complex but memorable passwords

Losing access to your root account can result in permanent loss of administrative control over your Filespace if no other administrator accounts have been created.

Important note

The inability to reset passwords is not a limitation but a security feature that protects your data. This zero-knowledge approach ensures that no one, including LucidLink staff, can access your data without your password.
